We are down to six unclaimed summaries, and it's been a little more than a week since claims have been opened. If you haven't already signed up to participate, you can do so here. Rules are here, summary claims can be found here.

Here's the thing. If we can't get people to claim the remaining summaries so that all the primary fanworks have complement creators, the chances of Bandom Big Bang 2017 happening are going to evaporate.

We understand that not everyone has the time, talent, or energy to actually participate as a creator, but at the same time, we've seen very little in the way of reblogging, retweeting, or signal boosting BBB content.

Maybe it's time to call it quits. We love bandom, love seeing the creativity from the people in fandom, but maybe it's time to move on.

What do you think?

  • Read the rules.
  • If you haven't signed up to be a complement creator, please do so here.
  • Claiming is first come, first served. No take backs!
  • Cut and paste the following into a comment:

  • Once all primary fanworks are claimed, we will open claims for a second round of claims.
  • Mods will reply confirming your claim or asking you to choose again.
  • Remember that complements can not be of the same format as the primary. So if the primary is a fic, you cannot write a fic - you must create something in a different format.
  • Drafts will be sent out over the next several days via e-mail. Please wait 72 hours before contacting us because you are missing a draft. It takes time to coordinate this!
  • Finished fanworks are due September 10th, 2016.
  • You are welcome to claim a second summary once you have completed your original assignment and it has been accepted by the mods.
  • GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN.

Okay, today is June 17th, and rough drafts are due today.

As long as it's the 17th somewhere in the world, you're still good. So you've got a little more than 20 hours to turn your fanwork in. Click here to see how much time remains.

I will note that this mod is going to their first show (Against Me!) in their new location tonight, and won't be dealing with any BBB stuff until late Saturday morning at the earliest, so...take that for what you will.

If you have questions, comments, concerns, etc, email the mods asap.

Good luck.

Okay, for those of you who are awesome and have stayed on track and are ready to turn in your draft, instructions are under the cut. *twirls you* Seriously, you are amazing. You can turn in your draft anytime between now and the deadline.

For the rest of you, who are also awesome, would a week's extension help? I know a lot of people (including this mod) are not ready for the deadline and a week might make the different between submitting a fanwork and not.

We'd much rather have more fanworks.

So, new deadline is June 17th. As long as it's still June 17th somewhere in the world, your fanwork is not late. If you have questions or concerns about whether your fanwork will meet the definition of 80% complete, please contact the mods asap.

Questions? Comments? You know where to leave 'em.

Wow, we've had a great turn out so far, it's been lovely seeing some familiar names, as well as new ones. Hello, everyone!

Once you confirm your email, you'll be sent a link to a small survey to see what kind of support you want and need from the community to get your Big Bang project done.

One of the things we're looking at doing is a weekly post for cheering/checking in/inspiration/venting/etc, mostly likely on DW and mirrored on Tumblr. If you are interested in "hosting" one of these check in posts, please email the mods.

Sign ups will continue to be open, and in the meantime, let's get going!

So it looks like there's enough interest to run another round, and most people seem okay with the overall way things are set up, so yay! If you took the time to answer the poll, thank you!

Some important things I wanted to bring up before posting the rules, and the sign-ups.

So?

It's clear that Bandom has quieted down significantly on the journaling platform side of things; we didn't have any problems with claims for Wave One in 2015, but for Wave Two there were several primary works that didn't get claimed by complement creators, and that was very disheartening, not only to the mods, but for the creators who participated as well.

So, maybe we need to change things up a little bit. My thoughts are this:

  • Have only one wave of BBB (with previous Wave One requirements: story of 20k+ words, podfic of 20k+ words, mix of 40 songs, art you've spent 40-60 hrs on, 4 minutes of vidding)
  • Sign ups start March 10th, claims for complements around June 10th, final fanworks due September 10th (note the longer creation period).
  • Continue allowing both primary and complement fanworks to be in any format (writing, art/crafts, mix, podfic, vid).
  • Monthly check-ins (just to keep everyone on track - the creation periods are longer with this schedule).

So, here's a poll! Anyone can participate, please signal boost this as much as possible, because I need to know if there's enough interest to sustain a BBB this year.

I'll keep the poll open for a week, so don't put off taking it. It's short, and I'd like to hear from a wide range of people.

And that's a thing, too. If you have a Tumblr and are active on the platform, please follow the Bandom Big Bang Tumblr account and reblog our posts. We don't seem to be reaching a lot of Bandom Tumblrites, and I'd like that to change.

If you have questions, concerns, or comments, please email the mods at bandombigbang @ gmail

    -aka!mod

    ETA:

One thing I do want to point out is that in the past, the timing has been:
  • Wave One (higher requirements), a bit under 4 months for 20k words and the equivalent for primary fanworks.
  • Wave Two (lower requirements), a bit under 3 months for 10k words and the equivalent for primary fanworks.

For 2016, we're looking at a bit under 6 months for 20k words and the equivalent for primary fanworks. A few people seem to think that the schedule is tougher for 2016, when it's actually more time to get your fanwork completed.

Under the cuts are all the amazing fanworks produced for the Bandom Big Bang Challenge 2015. Thanks to all the participants who helped make this a successful year.

Please take the time to check out the great fanworks and let the creators know how awesome they are.

Participants, please consider adding your fanwork to the AO3 Bandom Big Bang 2015 Collection. [Note that there are two collections for 2015 - one is for this community, the other belongs to someone/something else - choose the collection bandombigbang_2015]

Please comment with corrections, if necessary.

Pairings: Frank Iero/Gerard Way, Lindsey Ballato/Jamia Nestor
    Size: ~25k
    Rating: Mature
Warnings: Scene of over-eating, talk of dinosaur abuse (not on-screen), talk of dinosaur blood sports (not on-screen), potential danger and violence of the nature-red-in-tooth-and-claw variety, scene with a spider.

    Summary:
Gerard and Frank are rival hosts of dinosaur nature shows, who suddenly find themselves forced to work together. In order to impress their new boss, cable magnate Grant Morrison, they have to create a season of dynamic shows that maintain their high standards as well as continue to bring in the viewership (and ad revenue).

On top of that, Frank and Gerard have to deal with the unexpected physical attraction they feel toward each other, all while avoiding stampeding ankylosaurs, ravenous theropods, and the occasional amorous pterosaurs.

    Ready Fuels Anberlin

Radio, Radio Elvis Costello & The Attractions

With this mix, I tried to illustrate the progression of a plot line in the Killjoy universe. I wanted something with confusion, realization, and liberation. Take California was meant to be exposition. I wanted to get the feel that not everyone in the situation was there of their own accord or consent. From Pretend World to Wolf Mother was a slow decline from compliant citizen to someone questioning. Shiny and In the Shadows illustrate the lack of trust of both Battery City and the Killjoys. “They say that I must learn to kill before I can feel safe; but I’s rather kill myself than turn into their slave” is a good instance of this. After coming from a city of robots, who would want to lose themselves in the Zones? My writer pointed out that the turn from suspicion to trust happens during Sanctuary and Radar Detector. From there, it continues until the final songs, Ready Fuels and Radio, Radio, in which the protagonist and their new partners have become fully united.
