Hi ya!
glitteryv here to share with you some tips and tools to get that first draft done. It is doable even if it looks like a super impossible task. #Trustme
Let's face it: whether it's their first story or their 100th, there's a point in which everyone needs a little help in getting their story to a rough draft. Do check out whichever links catch your attention.
How-to's
*
fandom_grammar is a great place to check out if you'd like to learn about things such as:
+ Epithets (with bonus sequel).
+ How to write fight scenes
+ Posts on POVs
+ And general Grammar 101 stuff that we might've forgotten about.
*
cupidsbow posted a series on writing geared towards fic some years ago. These two essays are deffo relevant to
bandombigbang writers:
+ How to write long-form stories (DW / LJ)
+ A formula for writing sex scenes (DW / LJ)
* Two more posts about writing sex scenes:
+ From the Fanfic Symposium
+ and from
resonant
Granted, both of these posts might seem a tad old school to some, but the points raised in both essays still hold true in 2014. #IJS
Writing tools
* Have you heard of Written? Kitten! ? It's a reward tool in which you get a pic of a cuddly kitten for every 100, 500 or 1,000 words written. There's no time limit for each round. All you need to do is to remember to copy and paste whatever you've written onto a new doc.
What's that? You think a pic of Pete or Frank would be more inspirational? No worries. Just tweak the URL like so:
http://writtenkitten.net/?search=petewentz (or whoever you want pics of as a reward) and voila!
FYI, at the 100 word count per round, you'll need 200 bunnies/cats/Pete Wentz/Gerard Way/Gabe Saportas to get 20,000 words down.
* But,
glitteryv, you might say, I think I'll get too distracted by Spencer Smith's general hotness to finish my story!
OK, in that case, you'll want to check out Write or Die. You set your own word count goal, time limit, and severity of each round. At the end of each round, you'll have to copy whatever you've written and paste it onto a doc.
Other methods
* These are some ways of getting your story flowing if you're not sure what exactly you want it to be:
+ Not!fic it so you can get a general idea about it. Then, you need to change it from not!fic to actual!fic.
+ Chat!fic it with a friend. This works if your plot is stuck.
+ Follow
bandombigbang and join the word sprints. They are happening at random times in order to give everyone a chance to hang out and add some wordage to your drafts.
Writing-centric Tumblrs
+
yeahwriters - Especially their writing advice posts.
+
writeworld - Helpful via their image and music block pages.
And, that's all for now, kiddos. BTW, if you have any advice, writing tool recs, Tumblrs, etc. not listed, it'd be totes awesome if you shared it with everyone by posting about it in the comments section.
Keep writing! You've got this! ;)
