Friending Meme!

tl;dr friending memes are a good way to make new friends, but also help develop creative relationships with people who will keep you focused on your Bandom Big Bang fanwork.

Important things to remember:

•You don't have to have a DW to participate - just comment anonymously.
•You don't have to be signed up as a fanwork creator to participate.
•The official BBB Tumblr (bandombb) and Twitter (bandombigbang) are only for announcements, but there is an inspirational Tumblr that you can contribute to at any time by joining the bbb-network.
•If you are signed up as a fanwork creator, you can opt to be poked and prodded by mod email.



The mods' collective excitement about this year's Bandom Big Bang is mega-intense! We're definitely thrilled to see people returning to participate and equally as happy for all of the first timers as well.

One of the best ways to make sure you get to the finish line is to have a lot of support. Cheerleaders, productivity partners, and betas all help keep you focused on the finish line. And it might feel like it's a little early in the game to be recruiting minions friends, it really isn't.

So look at the people in your life, figure out who has the time to help you out. Who's gonna text you every few days to see how your fanwork's going? Who's gonna help you brainstorm your fanwork or do productivity sprints with you? Who's going to beta your fanwork?

Friending memes are a great way to meet new friends that share a fandom, but it's also a great place to offer your services as a minion, or to ask for people to volunteer to be a minion. Dude - Patrick/Joe is just... It makes me happy because (when they're not being awkward vandays teenagers who won't communicate - it's a mainstay of Patroh fic) they'd actually work together. It's one of those ships where they have complementary personalities and there wouldn't be too much drama (although a lot of angst, always, because they both have shitty self-esteem). I once wrote a kind of, half-satirical ship manifesto about it, on trohslashstump, with a friend. There are a bunch of cute old photos of them being cuddly and more recently a video surfaced from 2003, of Pete gleefully telling a DJ - in front of them both - that they'd got off with each other. Pretty sure there's a story behind that, that would make sense of it if it isn't a joke (a dare or something, I don't know, but they're adamant they weren't drunk), but it's funny as hell. They're so awkward.

I've written a bunch of stuff on my AO3, if it tickles your fancy and you'd like a bit of an initiation but, unfortunately, we're a really tiny fandom. Others tell me Capture the Phrases and Fairytale of New York (a Christmas fic) capture them pretty well, but I guess the most popular are Hedonism (IMO, first 1k words are a bit clunky, but it improves) and The World's Not Waiting (For Joe Trohman to Stop Being A Pussy and Start Going For What He Wants (TWNW) is quite popular. That one had a seven year writing hiatus in the middle of it, but it's very much back on, now.

I can definitely rec heartofthesunrise's Summer of Like. I love that fic. Also, my friend and beta distortedmya has started a series in which Joe realises he's gay later in life, which is going to be awesome when it's finished.

I could genuinely talk to you about this for hours. You have no idea the size of the worm can you've opened! XD
