Ways to stay updated with information for Bandom Big Bang 2018

  • Our blog, @bandombb - pretty much a mirror of the Dreamwidth community’s announcements.
  • The Dreamwidth Community [community profile] bandombigbang - this is the primary place for information, check-ins and the like.
  • The Twitter account @ bandombigbang - another mirror of the Dreamwidth community’s announcements.
  • The @bbb-network which reblogs announcements from the official blog, and bandom-related content. Anyone who follows this blog can post bandom-related content
  • Send an email to the mods at bandombigbang @ gmail dot com
    New!
  • Our Discord server - contact the mods through email and we'll send you an invite.

If you aren't so good at keeping up with things, here are some ways to get notified when BBB things are happening:

  • If you have a Tumblr, you can get notifications for the @bandombb account, so you know when something has been posted.
  • If you have a Dreamwidth account, you can get notifications that the community has been updated.
  • If you have a Twitter, you can turn on mobile notifications.
  • Check out our Discord server for updates/announcements.
  • If you are signed up to participate, you will get email notifications of upcoming deadlines.

We are looking at implementing either a Slack or a Discord - if you’ve used either or have a preference, let us know in the comments at the Dreamwidth post - you can comment anonymously if you don’t have an account or you just want to be anon. We now have our very own Discord server!

We are also planning on having a friending meme after sign-ups open, so keep your eye out for that.

Discord

My friends and I use Discord to stay in touch, and we quite enjoy it. On Discord, you connect using servers, which you need an invitation link to join. These links are usually provided by the server owner or an admin. Different roles can be assigned to members of the server, giving them different levels of priveledge within the server, like access to restricted channels or certain colour names. On Discord, servers are organized by categories which usually have several voice and/or text channels in each category. Voice channels can usually have up to about four people at once, whereas text channels don't usually have limits. You can pin messages in text channels as well. Different colours can be used to show different positions within a server- YouTubers who have Discord servers usually use different colours to show who donates to their Patreon, or what level Patron someone is. In more lax servers, colours can be used to tell who's who at a glance. In Discord, you can also privately message people, add them as friends, and "ping" them on messages in text channels. Pinging someone is like tagging them, and they will get a notification that they've been pinged. I believe you can also ping everyone in the text channel or the server if the message is important, instead of having to tag everyone separately.
