Summary:
Patrick never asked for his parents to get divorced. He never asked his Mom to uproot his life and move him across the country.
It’s not his fault- as his parents keep insisting, he’s completely blameless in all this. So, Patrick doesn't understand why he has to deal with all the consequences.
Fuelled by homesickness, and an irrational hatred for Seattle and its tourist attractions, Patrick leaves his new house and runs away- homeward bound for his perfectly good old house.
The road is long, the journey spans months, and it doesn’t take long for Patrick to find company: Joe, another runaway, and a whole year younger than Patrick. Andy, a quiet man with no apparent destination. And Pete, who takes it upon himself to lecture the teenagers on his rules for successfully running away- and, for not getting arrested.
