Title: It's Not a Side Effect of the Cocaine

Format: Fic

Bands: Fall Out Boy

Pairings: Patrick Stump/Pete Wentz

Size: 54,752 words

Rating: Explicit

Warnings: Soul Punk Era Patrick Stump, Recreational Drug Use, Drug Addiction, Los Angeles, party scene, the music industry, Film/TV industry, Alternate Universe - Hollywood, A little angst, a little fluff, a lot of smut, Falling In Love

Summary:
They don’t meet on a front porch in the Midwest. There’s no argyle sweaters or knee socks worn with shorts. There’s no Fall Out Boy. Instead, they meet in a nightclub bathroom somewhere in West Hollywood; a successful solo artist and a not-so-successful actor. Fame breeds infamy.

A tale of Hollywood excess, growing up even when you’re, technically, already a grown-up and learning things the hard way.

Posting of Bandom Big Bang fanworks starts today!

Please take the time to check out all the new fanworks and leave kudos and/or comments, because everyone has worked hard to get through this challenge. If you really enjoyed the fanwork, consider telling your friends about it, or maybe rec it on your Tumblr or DW or LJ or where ever you hang out.

Creators, there is a collection on AO3 for BBB 2018 fanworks, please consider adding your fanworks to the collection (if you need help in doing so, please contact the mods).

We will be tweeting fanworks as they are posted, and will reblog on Tumblr as well.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

Remember that the deadline is November 26. As long as it's November 26th somewhere in the world, you are still a-ok. You can find a countdown to the deadline here.

If you haven't talked to your creative partner, now is the time to do so. You need to coordinate with them about where you will be posting your fanworks.

If you don't have a Dreamwidth account, the mods will be glad to post your entry into the community. Just let us know ASAP.

Note: We've decided to only use written summaries this year, rather than post snippets/thumbnails of art/podfic/vids. Please double check the format of the fanwork before you choose it, because we don't want anyone to be surprised.

  • Read the rules.
  • If you haven't signed up to be a complement creator, please do so here.
  • Claiming is first come, first served. No take backs!
  • Cut and paste the following into a comment:

  • Once all primary fanworks are claimed, we will open claims for a second round of claims.
  • Mods will reply confirming your claim or asking you to choose again.
  • Remember that complements can not be of the same format as the primary. So if the primary is a fic, you cannot write a fic - you must create something in a different format.
  • Drafts will be sent out over the next several days via e-mail. Please wait 72 hours before contacting us because you are missing a draft. It takes time to coordinate this!
  • Finished fanworks are due November 26, 2018.
  • You are welcome to claim a second summary once you have completed your original assignment and it has been accepted by the mods.
  • GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN.

Primary rough drafts due: August 20th (fanworks must be 80% complete)
Primary claims period: August 23rd - August 27th
Primary and complement final drafts due: November 26th
Posting: November 28th - December 4th

We had about 25 people participate in the poll, and while about 48% of you indicated that you would be done by the deadline, 92% of you indicated you would be fine with an extension. And since 52% of you are not going to be done by the deadline, we'd decided to extend the schedule by a month.

So, we've updated the schedule. We jiggled the final due date a little, because of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the US.

If you have timing issues with either the rough draft, claims, or final draft turn in days, please email the mods.

When you turn in your final draft, you can include which posting dates are a no-go for you and we will accommodate you as best we can.

Good luck, and keep working on your fanwork!

There's a little less than a month left before the draft deadline, so we thought it might be a good idea to host a weekend productivity event over at the BBB discord. It will hopefully provide a combination of motivation, inspiration, and cheering. The basic idea is:

Choose a goal --> work towards goal --> reach goal --> profit? ?? --> rinse, repeat

If you are interested, the event runs from Friday to Sunday; come join us. If you need an invite to the discord, shoot the mods an email and we'll hook you up.

Rough drafts are due JULY 20th! As long as it's still July 20th somewhere in the world, you are good.

Click here to see how long you have until the deadline.

If we don't have an email or draft from you by the deadline, we will assume you have dropped out. No hard feelings; good luck next time!

If you don't received acknowledgement from the mods within 48 hours of submitting your draft, please check your spam filter before contacting the mods.

There's a little more than a month left until the draft deadline of July 20th, so let's have check in.

If you feel up to it, share a little bit of what you've done.

How are you doing? Where are you at? Do you need a cheerleader/beta/sprinting buddy? What can we do to help?

Leaving love and support for each other in the comments is strongly recommended.

If you're in need of a beta, check the beta post. If you need moral support or a place to whinge or brainstorm or talk things out or find a sprinting buddy, the discord is a good place to check out. (Send an email to bandombigbang at gmail).

*cheers everyone on*

Beta post!

There has been a lot of people talking about needing a beta to help them through this challenge, so here is a post to hopefully help you connect with someone.

You do not have to be signed up as a participant in the challenge to offer to be a beta. Also consider that one of the ways to improve your work is to beta other people's work.

Examples of things that a writing beta can help with: SPaG, general proofreading, flow/pacing, structure, continuity, plot, characterization, canon checking, language picking (Brit-pick, Ameri-pick). Podficcers look for betas to listen for editing issues, sound issues, pacing/flow, and other elements. Vidders need people to watch what they've edited for cohesive themes, good flow, and continuity, as well as other technical issues. Artists need people to look at what they've created with an eye toward composition, color, details. Mixers may need a new set of ears to make sure their narrative theme is working.

If you are looking for a beta, please be clear on what you are looking for, and what kind of boundaries and timelines you're working with. For example, this early in the process, you may not want someone who's going to go over your fanwork with a fine-toothed comb. Maybe you just want to make sure that your characterization is working, or the story's flow is smooth. Sometimes you just want to hear about what's working, and not about the parts that aren't. Communicate these things with your beta.

Note which work platforms you use, or are most familiar with. Word, Gdocs, Scrivener, etc. Are you going to send your beta a .doc, or invite them into your Gdoc?

Cut and paste the info below into a comment. In the subject line, please put either In need of a beta or Offering to beta to make things easier. If you fit into both of those categories, please leave two separate comments rather than one.

It's a little shy of a month since sign-ups have opened, and we've got 40+ unique people type persons signed up as either primary and/or complement creators. So that's pretty exciting. *throws confetti*

Sign-ups remain open until the draft due date for primary creators, sign-ups for complement creators don't really close, either, but obviously the sooner after claims open, the better. So if you know anyone who was thinking about signing up, please feel free to encourage them.

If you haven't done so, please visit the friending meme and say hello. Comment to other people, introduce yourself, make new friends, help build a community. You can participate in the friending meme even if you're not signed up for the challenge, so don't feel shy.

Our discord server is a great place to commiserate, to talk about plot/progress/ideas/inspiration, to socialize, to get help. There's a channel for productivity sprinting, and daily random questions to discuss just for fun. If you've ever used a messaging program, like Google Chat, AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, or Kik, then using the discord will feel familiar. You can text chat with people who are currently logged in, or leave messages/conversations for others to join once they are logged back in. Send an email to the mod account if you'd like to try it out.

And here's the check in part of the post...

If you are a primary creator, have you settled on a plot/theme/character/pairing/medium/etc?
If you are a complement creator, are you excited to see what the primary creators will come up with?

Leave a comment with your answers!

There are a lot of new faces around here, in addition to those familiar friends that have been around forever. Glad all of you are here.

tl;dr friending memes are a good way to make new friends, but also help develop creative relationships with people who will keep you focused on your Bandom Big Bang fanwork.

Important things to remember:

•You don't have to have a DW to participate - just comment anonymously.
•You don't have to be signed up as a fanwork creator to participate.
•The official BBB Tumblr ([tumblr.com profile] bandombb) and Twitter ([twitter.com profile] bandombigbang) are only for announcements, but there is an inspirational Tumblr that you can contribute to at any time by joining the [tumblr.com profile] bbb-network.
•We have a Discord server, just ask for an invite.
•We will poke and prod you via email as necessary.

We know everyone's excited, and we're about to post the sign-ups, but we wanted to say a few things first.

We have a Discord server now. Hopefully it will be a place where people can interact and/or socialize, and to squee over Frank's newest puppy or Pete's selfie with a quokka.

And to that end, you can request an invite to the server whether you are officially signed up to participate in the challenge or not. There will be channels for participants only, where they can share tips and tricks and commiserate with each other. But anyone who wants a place to chat with other Bandom-oriented people is welcome.

If you'd like to check out the server, send an email to bandombigbang at gmail and we'll get you an invite.

***

We would also like to encourage all non-writing creators to consider participating as a primary creator. The Bandom Reverse Big Bang in 2012 ([livejournal.com profile] bandomreversebb) was a great example of how that worked, but unfortunately, much of the visual art has disappeared since Photobucket decided to be a dick.

If you are an artist/crafter, or a mixer, or a podficcer, or vidder, we'd love for you to create a thing as a primary fanwork. For visual artists, check out [personal profile] turlough's Welcome to the Black (Cat) Parade, as a great example of a art/craft being created as a primary fanwork. Several people have done podfic as primary fanworks (like [archiveofourown.org profile] dapatty's Frank/Dewees Podfic Compliation), and at least one (if not more) person has done a mix as a primary fanwork ([personal profile] syrupwit's mix is an awesome example!).

However your creativity manifests itself, we'd love to see you as a participant in our challenge. And please encourage your friends who are artists and mixers and podficcers and vidders to participate. We want to share fanworks from all the amazingly talented people in Bandom.
